What to expect
Your first appointmentAt CMOH, we know how important your first appointment is with your medical team. You will meet with one of our patient navigators who will get to know you, tell you what to expect and go over any issues you might have about insurance, finances, transportation or other concerns. You will then meet your care team. They will spend as much time with you as you need to answer your questions and discuss your treatment options.
Nurse practitioners/Physician assistantsNurse practitioners and physicians assistants play a key role in your care. Under your doctor's supervision, our NPs and PAs may participate in evaluating you in the office or during a hospitalization. They will be there to assist your doctor in managing your symptoms and your concerns. They work as a team to provide the best care for you.
NursesOur nursing staff is specially trained to administer chemotherapy and manage the side effects of these medications. All of our nurses are members of the Oncology Nursing Society. A majority of them have obtained their specialty certification in oncology.
Coordination of careMany treatments involve frequent or regular lab tests and procedures, such as x-rays and scans. It often requires seeing other doctors as well. CMOH takes on the responsibility of scheduling and coordinating all of your care. This gives you more time and energy to focus on you, the patient. We will make your appointments, communicate with your other doctors, and follow up to make sure you have quick access to important information.
CommunicationGood communication is at the heart of your care at CMOH. We want to work with you to assure that you understand your treatment and participate in the decision making process. Our team communicates with each other, with your referring doctors, and other physicians involved in your care.
Education and supportWe educate our patients from the first appointment and throughout the treatment process. We also have written materials available to help with symptom management.
Immediate symptom management --Nurse telephone triage:
AT CMOH, our goal is to keep you as healthy as possible and to help you avoid unnecessary visits to the emergency room or hospital admissions. To do this, we educate you about possible symptoms and problems, so that you know when to call us. We have telephone triage nurses available to talk to you about how to remedy any problems that do arise.
Patient portalAt CMOH, all of our patients have access to a secure patient portal. This is a great way to keep track of your lab tests, procedures and appointments, and send confidential messages to your treatment team. We have joined with Navigating Cancer to provide a secure and helpful service to our patients. Sign up today: Patient Portal.
