Rajesh Thirumaran, MD

Dr. Rajesh Thirumaran, MD joined Consultants in Medical Oncology and Hematology in June 2008. Born in Salem, India, Dr. Thirumaran completed his medical training at the Coimbatore Medical College, and after training in various hospitals in Scotland and England, obtained his Membership with the Royal College of Physicians of London -MRCP(UK) in 1999.

He then trained in Medical Oncology at the North Middlesex University Hospital in London and served as a Staff Medical Oncologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich, England. During this time he actively participated in various landmark cancer trials, namely the Mosaic Trial in Colon Cancer and the Big Lung Trial.

In 2001 Dr. Thirumaran started his career in the United States. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Lankenau Hospital, and then continued working there as an Academic Hospitalist. In 2005, he was voted Best Teaching Attending Physician by the Medical Residents.

While completing a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Lankenau Hospital, Dr. Thirumaran did research in breast cancer. This research was published at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago in June 2008.

Dr. Thirumaran is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology. He is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is a peer reviewer for the Journal of the Society of General Internal Medicine. He has also authored a book chapter on cancer chemotherapy.

With his extensive training and strong background in Medical Oncology, Dr. Thirumaran is dedicated to providing the best care for his patients. He believes in informed decisions and always discusses the various modalities of therapy options available with his patients.

Outside the office, Dr. Thirumaran spends as much time as he can with his wife and son. He loves computers and runs his medical school alumni website.
